In July 2006, the High Court ruled that Sue Wilkinson and Celia Kitzinger's legal Canadian marriage is not valid in the UK. The judge found that Sue and Celia *are* discriminated against as a same-sex couple, but that this discrimination is justified in order to protect the traditional notion of marriage as between a man and a woman, primarily for producing children. He also ruled that a same-sex couple does not constitute 'a family'.
This judgment is insulting to all lesbians and gay men and to many heterosexuals. It must not be allowed to stand. Sue and Celia hope to appeal - but cannot do so without financial support. They have been ordered to pay 25K of the government's costs for the case they have lost, and an appeal would cost at least another 50K. Please donate now to support marriage and family equality, and defend lesbian and gay human rights. For further information, see;.
